RESUMEN

The frequent detection of persistent per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in organisms and environment coupled with surging evidence for potential detrimental impacts, have attracted widespread attention throughout the world. In order to reveal research hotspots and trends of technologies for PFAS removal, herein, we performed a data-driven analysis of 3975 papers and 436 patents from Web of Science Core Collection and Derwent Innovation Index databases up to 2023. The results showed that China and the USA led the way in the research of PFAS removal with outstanding contributions to publications. The progression generally transitioned from accidental discovery of decomposition, to experimentation with removal effects and mechanisms of existing methods, and finally to enhanced defluorination and mechanism-driven design approaches. The keywords co-occurrence network and technology classification together revealed the main knowledge framework, which was constructed and correlated through contaminants, substrates, materials, processes and properties. Moreover, adsorption was demonstrated to be the dominant removal process among the current studies. Subsequently, we concluded the principles, advances and drawbacks of enrichment and separation, biological methods, advanced oxidation and reduction processes. Further exploration indicated the hotspots such as alternatives and precursors for PFAS ("genx": 1.258, "f-53b": 0.337), degradable mineralization technologies ("photocatalytic degrad": 0.529, "hydrated electron": 0.374), environment-friendly remediation technologies ("phytoremedi": 0.939, "constructed wetland": 0.462) and combination with novel materials ("metal-organic framework": 1.115, "layered double hydroxid": 0.559) as well as computer science ("molecular dynamics simul": 0.559, "machine learn"). Furthermore, the future direction of technological innovation might lie in high-performance processes that minimize secondary pollution, the development of recyclable and renewable treatment agents, and collaborative control strategies for multiple pollutants. Overall, this study offers comprehensive and objective review for researchers and industry professionals in this field, enabling rapid access to knowledge guidance and insights into research frontiers.

Electrocatalytic methods are valuable tools for addressing water pollution and scarcity, offering effective pollutant removal and resource recovery. To investigate the current status and future trends of electrocatalysis in wastewater treatment, a detailed analysis of 9417 papers and 4061 patents was conducted using scientometric methods. China emerged as the leading contributor to publications, and collaborations between China and the USA have emerged as the most frequent partnerships. Primary article co-citation clusters focused on oxygen evolution reaction and electrochemical oxidation, transitioning towards advanced oxidation processes ("persulfate activation"), and electrocatalytic reduction processes ("nitrate reduction"). Bifunctional catalysts, theoretical calculations, electrocatalytic combination technologies, and emerging contaminants were identified as current research hotspots. Patent analysis revealed seven types of electrochemical technologies, which were compared using SWOT analysis, highlighting electrochemical oxidation as prominent. The technological evolution presented the pathway of electro-Fenton to combined electrocatalytic technologies with biochemical processes, and finally to coupling with electrocoagulation. Standardized evaluation systems, waste resource utilization, and energy conservation were important directions of innovation in electrocatalytic technologies. Overall, this study provided a reference for researchers to understand the framework of electrocatalysis in wastewater treatment and also shed light on potential avenues for further innovation in the field.

RESUMEN

A sulfur-based biofilter enhanced by phosphate modified activated carbon as particle electrodes was constructed to simultaneously remove total nitrogen (TN) and estrogen from low carbon-to-nitrogen ratio (C/N) wastewater containing 1 mg/L 17-alpha-ethinylestradiol (EE2). Results showed that the enhanced biofilter achieved outstanding performance in EE2 removal (93.2 %) and TN reduction (effluent < 5 mg/L), demonstrating robustness against C/N fluctuations. It was noteworthy that it successfully reduced both acute toxicity (59.5 %) and estrogenic activity (88.6 %). Comprehensive characterization investigations and microbial community structure analysis revealed that enhanced electron transfer and increased microbial abundance likely contributed to improved biofilter performance. Core microorganisms, such as Pseudomonas and Chryseobacterium were identified as key contributors to synergistic estrogen degradation and denitrification. This study presented a feasible and promising strategy of combined process with three-dimensional electrodes and sulfur-based biofilter, highlighting substantial potential for advanced purification and safe reuse of wastewater.

Grandparenting is a crucial part of family child care. This study aims to examine the effect of grandparenting on the life satisfaction of community-dwelling older migrants, and attempts to explore the psychological mechanisms linking them. A total of 723 participants were recruited. The PROCESS Model 6 was used to complete the mediation analysis. The mediating effect was significant if the 95%CI did not contain zero. Results indicated that grandparenting was positively associated with migrants' life satisfaction (r=0.223, p<0.001). Loneliness and self-esteem significantly mediated this relationship, with mediating effects of 0.287 (95%CI: 0.072, 0.563) and 1.127 (95%CI: 0.648, 1.622), respectively. Grandparenting affects life satisfaction either directly, or indirectly by reducing loneliness and enhancing self-esteem.

Heterocyclic drugs (HCDs) detected at high frequencies in wastewater have raised great concerns and their advanced removal has been the hotspot for safe water reuse in recent years. Two-dimensional graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and its photocatalytic systems are increasingly emerging, however, there are inevitable drawbacks of stacking and difficulty in recycling, resulting in decreased pollutant removal and limited application. Herein, for the first time, this paper reported a three-dimensional g-C3N4/polyvinyl alcohol-sodium alginate aerogel (g-C3N4/PVA-SA aerogel) photocatalyst synthesized by ultrasonic exfoliation and in-situ polymerization for typical HCDs (sulfadiazine (SDZ), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), and carbamazepine (CBZ)) removal in water. The reduced stacking of g-C3N4 dispersed in PVA-SA aerogel was achieved as revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) analysis, and g-C3N4/PVA-SA aerogel was observed to possess encouraging degradation efficiencies and rates for SDZ (100%, 0.0249 min-1), SMX (100%, 0.1762 min-1) and CBZ (69.8%, 0.0056 min-1), which were improved by 50%-60% and 133%-216% compared to those of g-C3N4, respectively. Meanwhile, environmental impact factors such as pH and coexisting ions had less impact on the degradation of SDZ and SMX by g-C3N4/PVA-SA aerogel. The novel aerogel also had a good recyclability, with less than 5% reduction in degradation efficiency after five cycles observed. The photodegradation of SDZ, SMX and CBZ was confirmed to be driven by ⋅O2- and h+ through scavenger-quenching experiments. The new low carbon and recyclable g-C3N4/PVA-SA aerogel reported in this study indicated a good potential for efficient removal of HCDs from water, which provides an alternative strategy for advanced purification and safe reuse of wastewater.

OBJECTIVES: To explore the synergic effect of the combination of mirror therapy and electrical stimulation on lower limb motor function recovery in stroke survivors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, CNKI, Wan Fang, CBM were searched from inception to December 2020. Randomized controlled trials that compared the combined therapy with another single therapy were included. A pre-determined data collection form was used to extract data. Two authors independently extracted data and used the Cochrane Handbook criteria to assess the quality of included studies. RESULTS: Six studies, with a total of 437 patients were included. There was an overall positive effect on lower limb motor function recovery, according to Fugl-Meyer Assessment for the Lower Extremity [all: WMD in fixed effects model: 5.63, 95% CI 4.86, 6.39] and Brunnstrom stage [all: WMD in fixed effects model: 0.49, 95% CI 0.32, 0.66]. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that the combination of mirror therapy and electrical stimulation for lower extremity motor function recovery in stroke survivors may have a positive effect.

BACKGROUND: Porokeratosis (PK) is a common autosomal dominant chronic progressive dyskeratosis with various clinical manifestations. Based on clinical manifestations, porokeratosis can be classified as porokeratosis of mibelli, disseminated superficial porokeratosis, disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis, linear porokeratosis (LP), porokeratosis palmaris et plantaris disseminata, porokeratosis punctata, popular PK, hyperkeratosis PK, inflammatory PK, verrucous PK, and mixed types. We report a case of LP in a child and describe its dermoscopic findings. CASE SUMMARY: Linear porokeratosis is a rare PK. The patient presented with unilateral keratinizing maculopapular rash of the foot in childhood. The patient underwent skin pathology and dermoscopy, and was treated with liquid nitrogen freezing and topical drugs. CONCLUSION: From this case we take-away that LP is a rare disease, by the dermoscopic we can identify it.
